Mavai Welfare Foundation

Established in 2022, Mavai Welfare Foundation was created with a vision to provide quality education to a rural village in India known as Mavai, which currently does not have adequate resources. Alongside this motive, education programs encourage parents to send girls also to school and provide them with a sound education. The young children are also given necessities such as school supplies to help with education.

Our Story

In 1946, Jaipal Singh Ambavat, the father of the founders of the foundation, was to start his education at the primary school in Mavai when he was 6 years old. His father was keen to send him to school and Jaipal passed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class in only 2 years. After 5th class there was a fee of 10 Rupees (0.11 Euro) to get admission to the next class. His father did not have sufficient funds, so he sold some wheat and borrowed money.

The junior high school was in another village 5 km away from Mavai. The fees were quite high but his father didn’t lose hope and requested the principal to allow Jaipal to continue his studies free of cost. The principal checked his results, which were good, and agreed. Jaipal walked 10 km every day to and back to study. By the time he would come home, it was dark as there was no electricity in the village, and he would study with the light of an oil lamp. He passed 10th class with good grades.”

For further studies, his father wanted him to go to Meerut. Due to financial pressures, they could not afford any means of transport and started their journey on foot. Meerut is a 10-hour walking distance. It was summer and very hot; his father fell sick on the way. They stopped at a nearby village where villagers tried home remedies as there were no doctors nearby, and unfortunately, he passed away the following day.

Jaipal was determined to fulfill his father’s desire and worked even harder to get higher education. He was admitted to Simbhawali College. He just had enough money to pay the fees but not for accommodation, books, and food. Luckily, a man working in a sugar mill nearby rented a room and allowed Jaipal to stay free of cost. The principal of the college was very generous and aware of his situation. He told him he could give tuition to their children, and they would pay him 15 rupees (0.17 Euro) every month. The principal’s wife would offer food to Jaipal after the tuitions. He completed his graduation with good marks.
